What to expect?

For this edition, we’re bringing a fun and activity theme, this time it's Gender Upcycling, as part of the Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week.

Clothing is often marketed and organised around the binary idea of gender, but it doesn't mean it needs to be inherently gendered. By adapting, changing and remaking pieces of clothing that we received or thrifted, we can reclaim and play with gender expression. We are going to discuss why this is important, who is deciding for us what we should wear and how, and how we can change our clothes to feel good with our look. At the same time, we will think about the problem: do we have to constantly buy new clothing to feel good? Why does this not sit right with us? How does this affect the environment?

We'll combine discussion and hands-on making, looking at gender, self-expression and sustainable fashion through simple changes in clothes that already exist.

Bring a second-hand, inherited or forgotten piece of clothing and we'll experiment with ways to change its fit, shape, details or style - giving an old garment a new meaning and, hopefully, making it feel a little more like you.

About Queer Events010

Queer Events010 is a Rotterdam-based initiative run by two local queer women, focused on creating inclusive, creative and social events for the queer community, with special attention to sapphic individuals. Their events offer space to connect and have fun beyond nightlife.

As part of OASE’s Social Play programme, this programme is part of Queer Sunday Café, a recurring monthly event exploring how play and shared experience can strengthen social connection and community.
