Heritage Mosaic is a visual project by artist Luchandro Franca, combining photography and video to explore heritage, tradition and identity. The name Heritage Mosaic refers to a mosaic: diverse elements coming together to form one whole, much like the way our DNA is composed. As a Dutch-born Curaçaoënaar, Franca has often felt disconnected from his culture and roots.

To better understand Antillean traditions and their origins, Franca collaborated with people who share the same cultural background. By speaking with different generations, he seeks to gain a deeper understanding of these traditions, how they have shaped his identity, and how their importance has diminished or even faded among younger generations.
Through the project, Franca explores the origins of these traditions and their influence on the cultural foundation he was raised within. He hopes to inspire others to engage more deeply with their own heritage and traditions, uncovering the stories and roots that shape their identity, while encouraging renewed appreciation, celebration and preservation of these cultural practices.

Heritage Mosaic is een project van Luchandro Franca over erfgoed, tradities en identiteit.
De naam Heritage Mosaic verwijst naar een mozaïek: verschillende elementen die samen één geheel vormen, zoals ook ons DNA is opgebouwd. Als in Nederland geboren Curaçaoënaar heeft Franca zich vaak losgekoppeld gevoeld van zijn cultuur en roots.
Om de Antilliaanse tradities en hun oorsprong beter te begrijpen, werkt Franca samen met mensen met dezelfde culturele achtergrond. Door met verschillende generaties te praten, onderzoekt hij de wortels van deze tradities en hoe hun betekenis binnen jongere generaties steeds meer is vervaagd. Zo probeert hij beter te begrijpen hoe deze tradities de culturele basis hebben gevormd waarin hij is opgegroeid en hoe zij zijn eigen identiteit beïnvloeden.
Met zijn werk wil Franca deze onderwerpen verder onderzoeken en anderen inspireren om zich te verdiepen in hun eigen tradities en erfgoed. Door de verhalen en wortels erachter te ontdekken, hoopt hij bij te dragen aan een hernieuwde waardering, viering en het behoud van deze culturele praktijken.
