Tatreez Workshop

A stich without thread with Mohammed Abushaban

Tatreez is the traditional Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery. The workshop is intended as a collective space for making, learning, and experimentation. Participants would be invited to work with Palestinian motifs on their own brought garments, and create their own tatreez-inspired compositions using 3D-printed stamps. The goal is to make Tatreez easier to approach without making it less meaningful. This workshop is part of Don't stop talking about Palestine.

Oktober

Tatreez is the traditional Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery. For centuries, motifs have been passed from mother to daughter. Patterns stitched into clothing, telling stories of region, family, and place. A cypress tree, a star, a bird, a flower: each carries meaning. It is identity, sewn into fabric. By changing the surface, scale, and method of making, tatreez can become more than decoration; it can become a way to speak about identity, memory, displacement, care, and collective experience.
