Throughout the afternoon and evening, you can drop in and help build the ofrenda together with Sergio Cruz. As you work, Sergio will share stories about Día de los Muertos and explain the meaning behind the different elements that make up the altar.
You’ll learn about the role of food, flowers, candles, photographs and other offerings, while helping create a shared space for remembrance and connection. You’re welcome to bring a framed photo of a loved one who has passed away to include on the altar.
You don’t need any prior knowledge or experience to take part. Come for a few minutes or stay longer, listen to the stories, add something to the altar and spend some time together at OASE’s Kantine.
Participation is free, but registration is required due to limited capacity.
Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican celebration of life and remembrance. It is a time to honour loved ones who have passed away and keep their memory close through food, flowers, music and shared stories.
At the heart of the tradition is the ofrenda, an altar filled with photos, candles, flowers and other offerings. Each element has its own meaning, creating a space where memories can be shared and connections between generations kept alive.
