April

There’s so much to tell about days at the office. Except Susan, because “she’s always on mute”.

What does work look like for you? It might start with passive-aggressive elbowing on a crowded train and coffee machine conversations where the dreaded “how was your weekend?” somehow saves the day from awkward silence. Maybe you work behind the bar, where Friday night turns you into a superhero working the beer taps with what feels like six arms and eyes in the back of your head. Or somewhere the line between colleague and friend gets blurry - and let’s not even start on the titles of team lead, supervisor or manager… we all know who the boss is.

In celebration of hard-working people in what can sometimes be a hard-to-work-with scenario, we’re sharing stories about the adventures of earning a living.

Labour Day series

This edition takes place in the context of Labour Day. Labour Day began with global labour movements demanding fair hours, fair pay and dignity at work. In the Netherlands it often passes quietly, but that’s exactly why it deserves more attention.

At OASE we mark the occasion with a series of programs which includes this Storytelling Night, a New Narratives on Thursday 30 April, a workshop by performance artist Jannes van Arkel on Saturday 2 May and a guest chef serving a proper worker meal. More to be announced.

About Storytelling Night

Storytelling Night is a recurring evening at OASE where personal stories take the stage. Hosted and curated by Maria Diaz, each edition brings together 4–5 storytellers who share an 8-minute story around a central theme. Expect an intimate night full of recognition, humor and unexpected perspectives. The kind that makes you see familiar situations in a completely different light.
