On this floating rock, potatoes grow quietly underground, and end up sliced, mashed, or left as the “last fry” no one touches. They become memories of your first job at a snack bar, or a metaphor for someone who first appeared plain, but was sizzling hot on the inside.

Life is always bursting out of the Earth. Only our wonderful planet could create so much meaning from a potato. But there’s also that solo trip where you jumped into a freezing lake. Or when that plant you cared for so much pushed out a flower. Or when you found love at a red-light bike lane.

Like a potato, the Earth is a big ball of treasures. This evening is an ode to our planet, telling stories about the great gift of being alive - whether it's climbing a mountain, or the succulent satisfaction of eating the last fry.

Open call: Share your story

Do you have a personal story about this theme that you’d like to share on stage? That would be awesome! Send an email to info@oaserotterdam.nl and host & curator Maria will get in touch.

Earth Overshoot Day series

Halfway through the year, we’ve already used up the planet’s resources… but we’ve got ideas to live more joyfully, more creatively, and kinder to Earth. And would that involve AI-generated video's of humanized cats and dogs or not? Join us for: Storytelling Night, Vintage aan de Maas, Art workshop with what’s already around, Guest chef with a family recipe & fermented veggies. Celebrate nature, creativity, and good vibes together. More information coming soon!

About Storytelling Night

Storytelling Night is a recurring evening at OASE where personal stories take the stage. Hosted and curated by Maria Diaz, each edition brings together 4–5 storytellers who share an 8-minute story around a central theme. Expect an intimate night full of recognition, humor and unexpected perspectives. The kind that makes you see familiar situations in a completely different light.
